The Two Lane Holiday Gift Guide

This holiday season there has been a trend. My bestie called me and said, “Hey, let’s not do gifts this year and please don’t buy anything for my kids. They don’t need anything!” Then, I got a call from my Dad and he said the same thing, “No gifts!”.   I really like how conscious everyone is being this year. While I think this fantastic, I also wonder if they think that because we just started Two Lane, we are broke! Well, either way, I like the thought.

However, giving gifts isn’t the problem. The well considered gift is really delightful! This issue arises when the gifts are thrown into a landfill a few months later. Here are some gifts out there that I can get behind:

Everyone is always giving socks. They are a great stocking stuffer and everyone needs ’em. So, how about these from Conscious Step. The company partners with non-profits to help the oceans, the elephants, LGBTQ communities and others.  These gift socks come in packs of 3 and each pair is for a different cause.

For the people in your life who love their products, how about going over to Beauty Counter which is a registered B Corp (businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability). We like the Transforming Duo. Each comes in a festive box for easy gifting.

Here’s the real crowd pleaser – The EcoSphere. This is a closed fish tank type ecosystem invented by NASA. It contains your very own shrimp that lives with active micro-organisms, algae and bacteria, each existing in filtered sea water. Because the EcoSphere is a self-sustaining ecosystem, you never have to feed the life within. You know that family member who needs a pet but just doesn’t want all the commitment? How about the EcoSphere?  What about your bestie that can’t stand to clean the fish tank? EcoSphere, my friends. I bought the small one for my husband who won’t let me have a dog. On sale now for $59.99. Check out what Carl Sagan said about it.

For office gifts, a great option could be donating to a cause on behalf of your colleague through GlobalGiving. GlobalGiving is a trusted way of getting contributions right to the non-profits. They help donors make safe and easy US tax-deductible donations to vetted, locally-driven organizations around the world.

Offset your carbon footprint – a gift for the whole family!  I know that many of you who subscribe to Two Lane have some carbon to offset. Girl, your travel alone! Check out Conservation.org to calculate your footprint and then pay to offset that. Your money goes directly to restoring critical forests around the world.

Buying gifts second-hand is also a great idea. I got this ornament for our tree at Picker Joes Antique Mall in Savannah, GA. Yes, his glasses are mirrored.

Finally, (you knew it was coming) buy yourself the gift of Two Lane!   Become a part of a growing community of people who are reading about and doing things that matter. What matters to us are stories about sustainability, regeneration, and well-being. We doubled over with laughter when we saw that Santa ornament. Nothing better than a good laugh for your well-being, right?
